Exploring Eminabad: A Forgotten Jewel of Sikh Heritage in Pakistan

Nestled quietly near Gujranwala, the ancient town of Eminabad is a living museum of shared history — a place where the footprints of time still echo through narrow alleys, sacred shrines, and forgotten stories carved in stone. On my recent visit, I took a deep dive into its spiritual and cultural past, especially exploring its deeply significant Gurdwaras that still stand as testaments to an era of devotion, resilience, and communal harmony.

📜 A Town Steeped in History

Eminabad was once a major hub during the Mughal era and later became a key location in Sikh religious history. According to Sikh tradition, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, visited Eminabad during the first of his four spiritual journeys. The town bore witness to historical moments of both suffering and strength — especially during the invasion of Babur — and holds landmarks where faith withstood fear.

🛕 Gurdwara Chakki Sahib – Where Guru Nanak Laboured

Our journey began at Gurdwara Chakki Sahib, a modest yet powerful symbol of spiritual dignity. It is said that Guru Nanak was forced to grind grain here during Babur’s invasion, an act that became a metaphor for the oppression of common people. Yet, Guru Nanak’s composure and teachings during this period spread a message of peace and inner freedom.

Walking through this gurdwara, one can feel the solemnity of the past. The grinding stone (chakki) still remains, guarded and preserved — a reminder of the trials and teachings of the Guru.

🏠 Bhai Lalu Di Haveli – Echoes of Devotion

Next, I visited the historic house of Bhai Lalu Ji, a devout follower of Guru Nanak. Although now part of a local residential area, the architecture and stories tied to this place carry deep meaning. Bhai Lalu’s home is believed to have hosted the Guru himself, making it a sacred site for followers.

You’ll see in the vlog how the locals still share oral histories with pride and reverence — connecting generations through stories of spiritual visits and blessings.

🌾 Gurdwara Rori Sahib – A Place of Reflection

Finally, we arrived at Gurdwara Rori Sahib, one of the most spiritually significant sites in Eminabad. This gurdwara commemorates the time Guru Nanak spent here, meditating on the banks of a rivulet and later composing hymns. “Rori” means pebbles — symbolizing simplicity and humility.

Despite time and transformation, the gurdwara retains its grandeur, and its peaceful courtyard offers a moment of quiet reflection amid the bustling town.
